Civil War Flags

7th  Illinois  Infantry  National  Flag

Description

Based on the shape of the canton and the arrangement of the stars, this flag was probably manufactured in New York by Paton & Co, Brandon Bros, or Albert Ertle. Although several battle honors on this flag can no longer be read because of deterioration of the silk and the paint, the orginal battle honors read as follows: TOWN CREEK, FORT DONELSON, SWALLOW BLUFF, PITTSBURG LANDING, BUTLERS CREEK, SIEGE OF CORINTH, WHIPPY SWAMP, NEUSE BRIDGE, CORINTH, ALLATOONA PASS, COLUMBIA, RALEIGH, SAVANNAH, BENTONVILLE.
