15th  Illinois  Infantry  National  Flag

Description

The stars on this flag have an eliptical pattern which is seen in flags of Philadelphia manufacture. The battle honors inscribed on the two national flags are: Donelson, Shiloh April 6th, Siege of Corinth, Metamora, Siege of Vicksburg, Jackson, Champion Hills, Atlanta, Savannah, Salkahatchie, Columbia, Fayetteville, Cheraw, Bentonville. This regiment along with the 14th Illinois Infantry was sent West to Fort Leavenworth and Fort Kearney after the Grand Review in Washington and was mustered out at Fort Leavenworth on Septtember 18, 1865.
