The colors of the Seventy-seventh were lost on May 22, 1863 at Vicksburg. At least one flag was presented to the Regiment in Peoria in 1862. “On the 20th of September the regiment marched to the city for the purpose of receiving a beautiful national flag—a present from the ladies of Peoria. The presentation speech was made by Washington Cockle, Esq., and responded to by Col. Grier, on behalf of the regiment… This presumably is not the flag mentioned in the presentation above, since this flag was the flag of Company C and not the national flag of the Regiment.
